Babushka Cats

Babushka Cats is a collective portrait of all the cats I’ve had as a pet. The head scarves represent the ties to my Eastern European heritage. Living in an immigrant + first generation Canadian household, Romanian and Canadian culture are simultaneously present. Despite my cats never having been outside the confines of my home, they experience both cultures in abundance. That marriage of identities is unique to my family and our cats but the experience can be shared by many immigrant families and their pets.
